How Do You Engage Students in Non-Fiction?

I just love to share free tips that I run across. This time my tip comes from the amazing Accelerated Reader program by Renaissance Learning.

These 10 strategies are free and are posted on Renaissance Learning.

Each strategy encompasses three components:
1. a Graphic
2. An Explanation
3. a Try It ~ activity
which allows for 10 quick mini lessons to promote nonfiction.

Here is a Quick Preview:

  1. Paraphrasing
  2. Choice
  3. Question
  4. Annotations
  5. Visuals
  6. Complex Text
  7. Think-Alouds
  8. Connections
  9. Technology
  10. Balance
Now every program needs the proper balance, so up front, you can see that these tips may really engage students. I urge you to take a look at Renaissance Learning.
