Classroom Mannequin Challenge Makes Movie Magic

Have you heard about the Mannequin Challenge? Well, I just recently found out about it while talking about lesson plans with colleagues. We decided the Mannequin Challenge would be a great idea for our ELD students, as it would give them a really fun opportunity to practice using technology (common core standard SL 5), collaboration, and writing (common core anchor standards W 6). We began to brainstorm some class rules that our students could portray because our school is in the first year of PBIS, Positive Behavior Intervention System. We now have our lessons ready for after Thanksgiving, and I have posted it in my store at TeachersPayTeachers at a discounted price for this holiday weekend.

We have created 36 task cards, which list many classroom and school - not rules, but ways of doing things. Here is an example:
The idea, is that students collaborate in teams to show both the wrong way and correct way of behaving for each activity. Students plan, create, and produce the video, and then write about it. Of course they show it to the other classes. We will then vote on the video clips that should be posted on our school website.

I would love to hear what you are doing with the Mannequin Challenge in your school. By collaborating, we can get better and better in what the students learn.

Until next time!
Happy Thanksgiving.
